Zaragata

Questions

What people ask before their first game night.

What is Zaragata?

Zaragata is an expansion pack that talks. You put house rules on your cards, deal, and play the game you always play. When someone plays a loaded card, a character announces its rule to the whole table, and it is rarely good news for them.

What do I need to play?

A phone with the app, a game with cards in it, and cards that can carry a rule: Zaragata cards, or Zaragata stickers on cards you already own. The other pages here say how that goes.

Does it cost anything?

Playing is free. You can buy credits to have your rules recorded in a character's voice, so they are not read out in a flat one and the night is more fun. The cards and stickers are sold separately.

Do I need an account?

Not to play. You make an account to write rule sets and share them. Friends you send a link to can write rules about each other without one.

Do my friends need the app?

No. One phone runs the whole game, and everyone at the table hears every rule. Friends who want to hold their own cards and see them on their own phones join with the app.

Is it for kids?

No. Zaragata is for players 18 and over.

Which phones does it work on?

Android phones and iPhones. Any recent phone that can pay by tapping can read the cards.

Which games does it work with?

Any game with cards in it. Card games are the natural fit, and board games that come with a deck work too. Zaragata does not change the game, it adds to it: you play by the rules you already know, plus the ones on the cards. The library lists rule sets by game, written by the people who play them. Zaragata is not affiliated with the makers of those games.

Can I write my own rules?

Yes. Pick the game, set the mood, add a line about who is coming, and Zaragata writes the rules. Or write them yourself, or send your friends a link and let them write rules about each other.

Can I see what is on my cards before they are played?

That is up to whoever deals. A secret card stays unread until it is played. A public one is shown to everyone, so they see it coming.
