The Announcer

Reads your downfall like the evening news

The Announcer reads your downfall like the evening news: calm, crisp, and a little too pleased with the headline. Good news and bad news get exactly the same level voice, so the table works out what happened from your face. Their favourite rules put whoever is winning on the spot, like naming every card before playing it or commentating on your own moves. And now, back to you.

One night with The Announcer

Breaking news from the table: whoever is winning must name every card before they play it. The Announcer delivered it in the tone of a flood warning.

The leader, a confident type, played their first card without looking up. "Name it," said somebody. "The... red one," the leader tried. The Announcer was unmoved. "Our correspondent reports a lack of detail."

A reporter at the end of the table asked whether the leader would be taking questions. The leader was not.

By the end of the round the leader was naming cards like a nervous auctioneer, with a small flourish at the end of each, and the rest of the table were providing the sound effects. A late bulletin said that one of the names had been invented.

"That's all from the table," said the Announcer. "Back to you."
