For three hours the Enforcer had been handing out penalties, and the table had begun to wonder whether it was personal. Then somebody played the one card in the deck that cancels the next rule aimed at you, and the Enforcer had to read it out.
"By order of the table," they began, and the rest came out as though pulled with pliers. "The next rule aimed at you... doesn't count."
The lucky player, who had drawn eleven cards that evening, said thank you with enormous care. "Enjoy it while it lasts," the Enforcer grumbled.
It lasted exactly one turn. The very next penalty was announced with a joy so pure it was almost a different voice, and the whole table agreed that this was the real Enforcer.
